Writing Cruise and Author Retreat

The Ship - Carnival, Freedom

Carnival Freedom offers some of the latest and greatest features across the Carnival fleet. As you explore the ship, you’ll find food options galore. Feast your eyes on dining rooms Posh and Chic, and look to Freedom Restaurant on Lido Deck for mouth-watering Guy Fieri burgers at Guy’s Burger Joint, plus the greatest tacos and burritos this side of the pier at BlueIguana Cantina.

For every great food spot, there’s a great place to enjoy drinks, too, from the toe-tapping Scott’s Piano Bar to the always-hoppin’ 70’s Dance Club. New libation hotspots include Alchemy Bar (cocktail magic central) and SkyBox Sports Bar (the 50-yard-line of fun). An outdoor, seaside bar is practically a cruise ship requirement, and everyone’s favorite is here… whether it’s the RedFrog Rum Bar or BlueIguana Tequila Bar.

Alex is committed to publishing interesting, varied, and diverse projects across a wide range of categories.  A die-hard lover of all things suspenseful, atmospheric, and thrilling, her tastes range from hard-boiled mysteries to fun and spunky cozies and everything in between, with a special emphasis on anything with psychological ambiguities, unreliable narrators, and questionable morals and motives. Alexandra is passionate about publishing books with heart-pounding moments and strong emotional intensity, running the gamut from dark romantic suspense to spunky and smart romantic comedies.  She is constantly on the lookout for well-written fiction with a commercial hook that turns tried and true tropes on their heads and brings familiar topics and fresh and interesting slant.  On the young adult side, she is looking for high-concept fiction, ground-breaking fantasy, and deeply emotional reads.  She lives in Stamford, CT with her husband and an ever-cluttered bookshelf.

Destinations

Writing Cruise for Authors

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel, Mexico is one of the top diving destinations in the world. Known for its bright coral reefs and abundant sea life, you won't want to miss a snorkeling adventure off the coast of Cozumel. A little history and some flint for your imagination... Cozumel means "Land of the Swallow" and is named after the seafaring bird. Settled by the Ancient Mayans over 2,000 years ago, Cozumel was a mecca for Mayan women to worship Ix Chel, the Goddess of Fertility. The remains of Ix Chel's alter and sacrificial site can be found at the San Gervasio ruins site near the center of the island.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is not recorded to have a human inhabitant until the early 1600's. Local folklore tells of two original settlers, Mr. Walter and Mr. Bodden, likely arriving after serving in Oliver Cromwell's army in nearby Jamaica. The first Caymanian was Issac Bodden, son of Mr. Bodden. The islands were inhabited by those looking to serve visiting ships with fish, turtles, and even hogs. Many who were shipwrecked along its coast remained on the island as well. As you walk along the Georgetown beaches, ask yourself the unanswerable questions. How did Walter and Bodden get to Grand Cayman? The mother of Issac Bodden is not recorded. What was her story? Take the time to reflect and soak in the multitude of untold stories waiting for you in Georgetown.

Ochos Rios, Jamaica

Ochos Rios, known for shopping and world-class resorts, as well as the setting of the very first James Bond film, Dr. No, is a port stop not to be missed! Go for a thrill-seeking hike up the Dunn's River waterfalls, relax on the beach, or go on a shopping extravaganza!
